Premeditated: Recent Work by Malaquias Montoya

Friday, March 24, 2006

Richard L. Nelson Gallery
March 30, 2006 through May 21, 2006

Malaquias Montoya, UC Davis faculty member, presents a suite of prints, drawings and paintings that argue for the abolition of the death penalty. Using hard-hitting imagery that only partially abstracts depictions of executions, Montoya confronts the viewer with his view of the brutality of such a practice. This exhibition is presented in conjunction with the Religious Studies Program, which will concurrently teach a class on the ethics of the death penalty, and with the Chicana/o Studies Program. A fully illustrated color catalogue is available, proceeds of which go to anti-death penalty organizations.
