Malaquias Montoya is renowned for the poster art that he has produced since the late 1960's. A muralist and painter as well as a printmaker, his work reflects a mastery that allows him to create succinct visual statements about oppressive social conditions and the spiritual condition of human beings when they are caught up in them.

While a child growing up in the 1940's and 1950's in the San Joaquin Valley of California, he and his family supported themselves as farm workers. Later he supported the farm worker movement with his art, and continues to support community action and people that are working to create positive systemic change in our society.
